The Georgia Aquarium is caring for several loggerhead sea turtles rescued from freezing temperatures off the coast of Cape Cod.
The aquarium shared with Channel 2 Action News photos and videos of the turtles under their care. The four turtles arrived Monday from New England Aquarium’s sea turtle rescue program.
The aquarium isn’t sure how long it will take for the turtles to recover. But they will stay with them until it’s safe for them to be released back into the ocean.
“They are being cared for by aquarists behind-the-scenes. Our aquarists will monitor them regularly and they provide feedings, and any veterinary care they may need,” a spokesperson said.

Loggerhead sea turtles are named for their large heads and spend much of their time floating at the ocean’s surface.
The animals can usually weigh anywhere between 200 to 350 pounds and reach up to 3 feet in length. While they reach maturity at 20 years old, loggerheads can live well over 100 years.
To get the care they need, it includes helping with their usual diets. The diet can consist of mollusks, clams, whelks, crabs, oysters, shrimp, sponges and horseshoe crabs, according to the aquarium.
