During the incident, the GBI said an officer fired his weapon, hitting and killing 39-year-old Robert Parks. The GBI said Parks was armed with a gun.

“I think the two weapons officers did see were a knife and a handgun in his possession or in his hands,” said Sergeant Wayne Delk with the Cobb County Police Department.

The hostage was rescued and taken to the hospital with injuries sustained during the hostage-taking.

One officer was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.

The GBI is continuing to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
