HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — The mayor of Clarkesville has died after a shooting, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed.
According to the GBI, Mayor Terry Green died after a shooting.

Greene was first elected to city council in 1999 after serving for 4 years on the planning and zoning commission, according to the city’s website.
He was elected mayor in the 2005 election and re-elected in 2009. He has lived in Clarkesville since 1992 and worked as a physician in private practice in Habersham County since 1992 specializing in internal medicine.
The Clarkesville City Council and city manager said they were "devastated at the loss of (their) mayor, colleague and friend."
The Habersham Medical Center released the following statement:
“The Habersham Medical Center family is filled with unimaginable grief and sadness upon learning of the passing of Dr. Terry Greene. Our hearts go out to his family, office staff, patients and countless others who admired and appreciated his medical expertise and leadership. Dr. Greene served for 23 years on the HMC Medical Staff, including serving as Chief of Staff from 2012 to 2014. His passing is a huge loss to our medical family, and we join the entire Habersham County community in mourning.”
Greene was a graduate of the University of Georgia and the Medical College of GA. He and his wife Anne have four children, the website says.
