ROSWELL, Ga. — Post pandemic, Roswell city officials are looking at ways to improve their transportation master plan, with help from the community.
“This really does look out 20-30 years into the future and attempt to forecast what’s going to be necessary,” Dan Skalsky, Roswell’s transportation director, told Channel 2 reporter Steve Gehlbach.
The biggest issue is traveling the barriers of the Chattahoochee River and Georgia 400.

The city is currently contemplating plans to build along big Creek Parkway, creating a new bridge over Georgia 400 that connects Old Alabama on one side to Warsaw Road on the other, creating a new connection for local traffic, according to city officials.
“For the most part that’s an entirely new east-west connector for the city of Roswell,” Skalsky said.

Skalsky said it is near the top of the list of projects in the master plan along the gateway widening along Highway 19 exiting Sandy Springs.
In turn, this would get rid of the center, reversible lanes and make the most dangerous intersection in the city at Riverside Road much safer, officials said.
“There’s a lot of interest in that project with the community and what it’s going to look like going forward,” Skalsky said.

Cyclists also want input on updates made to the master plan.
“There’s no bike lane and it’s a pretty treacherous stretch, but they’ve been very open about it and certainly on the docket,” cyclist Chuck Smith said.
The city will take all the input from meetings, come up with draft plans and hold another round of public meetings for additional input this fall before finalizing the plan by the end of the year.
