SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A motorcycle was traveling at nearly twice the posted speed limit on Georgia 400 Thursday morning, according to Sandy Springs police.

Sandy Springs police said an officer clocked the motorcycle at about 7:21 a.m. while it was traveling northbound near the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority station.
The motorcycle was traveling 60 mph over the posted speed limit, police said.
At 125 mph, a motorcycle travels nearly 184 feet every second, according to police. Officers warned that speeds that high leave little time to react to changing traffic, unexpected hazards or the actions of other drivers.

Police said excessive speed puts not only the rider at risk, but everyone else on the roadway.
Sandy Springs officers said they will continue working to keep roads safe and urged drivers and motorcyclists to follow posted speed limits.
“Slow down. Follow the speed limit. Make it home safely,” police said.
