ATLANTA — Detectives are going through three separate crime scenes after five people were shot in northwest Atlanta Saturday night.
Channel 2's Liz Artz caught up with investigators after they were called out to the Delmar Villa Apartments off of Delmar Lane just after 6 p.m.
Neighbors described the shooting as World War III.
Neighbors told Artz they heard as many as 50 shots go off. Sudie Dorsey said she was in bed at the time when bullets pierced the side of her home.
"I was scared to get out from under the covers myself," Sudie Dorsey said.
Artz spotted heavily armed cops from the gang unit, but investigators told Artz that it is too early to tell exactly what went on in the common area of the apartment complex.
"(It's) important to utilize their knowledge and resources in a shooting such as this, allocating all resources," said Officer Ralph Woolfolk with the Atlanta Police Department.
Police roped off three separate crime scenes. They said two of the victims ran to nearby complexes before collapsing.
"One was found at MLK and another ran to the Allen Temple Apartments," Woolfolk said.
Police don't know if the victims and suspects are one and the same, but Eddie Dorsey told Artz that violence is a nightly occurrence.
He said he was shot standing outside as he talked to a neighbor.
"Two months ago I got shot in the leg. They had to amputate," Dorsey said.
Police said the five people are alert, conscious and are recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital. Detectives are questioning them.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
