Fireball reported streaking through Georgia sky

ATLANTA — We're getting out first look at a fireball that lit up the sky over north Georgia and across the East Coast.

A police cruiser recorded video of the possible meteor in West Virginia as it shot across the sky.

Channel 2’s Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns said on the Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat some people saw the fireball and heard booms over north Georgia around 9:30 p.m.

The Tellus Museum in Cartersville told Channel 2 it was a piece of space debris entering earth's atmosphere.

“Every once in a while the earth runs into these objects as we're moving around the sun,” said astronomer David Dundee.
