Fire destroys large Johns Creek home

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — A fire destroyed a home in north Fulton County overnight Wednesday.

The left side of the two-story Johns Creek home was gutted.

When firefighters arrived, they said most of the home was already engulfed in flames. The flames spread to the attic at the home on Waters Bend Way, making it challenging to put out.

Four people got out safely. There were no injuries reported.

Firefighters credited smoke detectors for alerting the family to the fire.

“Fortunately, they had working smoke alarms, which probably saved their lives,” said Johns Creek Fire Chief Jeff Hogan. “It could have been a real tragedy. They were asleep. We encourage everyone to have smoke alarms installed in their homes and make sure they’re working.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
