ATLANTA — Crews were called to the scene of a large fire at an Atlanta apartment early Monday morning.
The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. at the Eagles Nest apartment complex at 2900 Landrum Drive.
By the time firefighters arrived, the building was fully engulfed.
The fire chief told Channel 2's Sophia Choi the fire started in a bottom-floor apartment and rose to the upper levels.
Firefighters worked for hours to contain the fire they described as "stubborn."
“We heard a banging on the door, and we looked down and there was a little fire by the air conditioning unit,” said resident Kami Parsons.
A total of 8 units were damaged. Five families had to escape the fire.
