Fire breaks out from apartment building's trash chute

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A fire broke out at a DeKalb County apartment building Sunday evening, sending firefighters to the scene.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue said crews were dispatched around 4:20 p.m. to 2200 Park Lake Drive after a fire was reported at the Atlas LaVista Hills apartment homes.

Firefighters found flames involving the building’s exterior trash compactor and chute system. The fire appeared to have started near the fourth floor before extending into the attic space above.

Crews were able to get the fire under control.

No residential units were affected by the fire suppression efforts, and no injuries were reported among residents or firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. DeKalb County Fire Rescue investigators are on the scene.
