The woman told Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers she was standing in her bedroom shortly before the shooting happened Saturday around noon.

She and her dog had just left to go to another room. Then she heard a series of loud gunshots.

“I heard that bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam,” she said.

They immediately ran back to the bedroom.

“When I got in there, it was just smoke in there and sheetrock and everything all over the floor,” she said. “So we ran back out here and called the police.”

DeKalb County police said they responded to the home after receiving a call around noon Saturday. No one was injured, but the woman said she is still shaken by what happened.

“I’ve never heard anything that loud in my life,” she said.

The damage was extensive. Windows were shattered, curtains were shredded and bullet holes could be seen in the ceiling, door and walls.

The woman wanted her identity concealed because police have not arrested anyone in connection with the shooting.

She told Rogers that neighbors have video showing a man running away through a nearby yard. She described the person as wearing a hoodie and all black clothing.

“I want them to get caught and get prosecuted,” she said.

The woman said this is not the first time her home has been targeted.

At the end of June, she came home to find her bedroom ransacked.

“I came home to my bedroom being destroyed, broken TVs, broken dresser drawers, everything, just thrown everywhere,” she said.

She said the thieves stole all of her valuables and took her safe during that break-in. She believes the same people could be responsible for both incidents.

“Maybe when they broke in, and I did have cash in there, they got that. Maybe they thought they could scare me and something else is in there, but nothing’s in there,” she said.

The woman has lived in the home for nearly 50 years. Now, she said the shooting has made her consider leaving.

“I want to move, but I realize that crime is everywhere,” she said.

Despite her fear, she said the violence will not break her spirit, and she had a message for the suspect.

“Get you a job and work, and stop taking from people,” she said. “That’s not nice. He might have gotten away with it with me, but the next person, he might not be able to get away with it.”

DeKalb County police are asking anyone with information about the shooting or the person seen running from the area to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted to police through the free DeKalb County PD app or by texting “DKPD” to 847411, followed by the tip.
