LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. — The parents of Kendrick Johnson have dropped their lawsuit against FBI agent Rick Bell, his two sons and 36 other defendants.

Johnson was found dead inside a rolled up gym mat at Lowndes High School in 2013. The state medical examiner was ruled the bizarre death an accident.

Karen Bell, Rick Bell's wife, told Channel 2's Mark Winne her family had no involvement in the death of Johnson.

Bell says she believes a judge was about to dismiss the lawsuit that sought millions of dollars in damages.

The Johnson family has six months to refile their civil suit. The family's spokesperson says in this six months, a criminal investigation that has been taking place since 2013 should be complete.

The family will revisit the suit once the criminal investigation is complete.

Meanwhile, the Bells have no intention of dropping their countersuit against the Johnsons.
