Family faces backlash for 'offensive' Christmas card

DERIDDER, La. — A family's Christmas greeting is going viral. Many people online are saying it's sexist and goes too far.

The photo shows the Louisiana family of five posing between rows of Christmas trees. the mother and two young daughter's mouths are taped shut. Their hands are bound by Christmas lights.

The father is holding a sign that reads "Peace on Earth" as their younger brother gives a thumbs up.

Many people say the photo is sending a message that women should not speak.

"It was originally my idea," said mom Lanie Johnson. "I found a photo like it on Pinterest and decided. Hey, let's try it."

Dad James Johnson says if you find it offensive, don't look at it.

"Take it for what it is. It's a family photo. If you like it, great. If not, scroll up. You're not going to even see it a half second later," sad James Johnson.

The family and photographer say the photo was meant as a joke.
