The City of Fairburn is mourning a police department employee who died from coronavirus complications this weekend.
Cheryl Catron worked as a civilian administration aide at the police department.
A GoFundMe page has been created by her family. Catron did have underlying health issues with diabetic ketoacidosis, according to the GoFundMe. No arrangements have been made at this time.
“We are heartbroken here. Losing a member of our Fairburn family is an awful thing to endure,” Fairburn Police Chief Stoney Mathis said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Cheryl’s family, friends, and all those she loved. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten."

Mathis said Catron left work Wednesday when she wasn’t feeling well. Catron was hospitalized Thursday and died Friday night at the hospital.
Fairburn police did not want to announce her death until her test results came back. Catron’s family notified the department Monday night her results were positive for COVID-19.
The police department’s lobby and administrative offices remain closed. Staff members who had direct contact have been sent home under quarantine.
“We are committed to the safety of our officers, admin staff, and all of the Fairburn community,” Mathis said. "Our officers are still serving the needs of the community and are distancing themselves from others as much as their job allows. Our detectives are working on rotation, and some are working from home, to avoid being together in one office.
