GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The final nail in the coffin came for efforts to privatize Gwinnett County's Briscoe Field airport.
County commissioners terminated expansion plans in June, and since then, the Federal Aviation Administration has removed the airport from its privatization program. The move disables any future expansion efforts. For nearly three years, residents complained that adding commercial flights to Briscoe Field would hurt quality of life and property values.
"On behalf of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, I would like to thank the residents who selflessly served on the airport privatization citizens review committee," said Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash. "For more than six months, these dedicated volunteers researched issues surrounding privatization, evaluated Briscoe Field's current and potential uses, attended numerous meetings, and prepared a final written report with their recommendations for the airport's future.
