Caitlyn Jenner will be honored at the ESPYs this summer.
ESPN announced today that Jenner, a former Olympian, will be awarded with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the awards show on July 15.
Jenner, 66, formerly known as Bruce, revealed in April that she is a woman. Earlier this week, Vanity Fair magazine released the first photo of Caitlyn since her transformation.
The decision is causing some controversy on social media, with many wondering whether Jenner deserved the award over other athletes like Noah Galloway, an Iraq War veteran who lost two limbs and later competed on "Dancing with the Stars," or Lauren Hill, an Indiana basketball player who raised more than $1 million for cancer research before dying from the disease.
ESPN has not indicated whether it was ever weighing the merits of Hill, Galloway, or anyone else, against those of Jenner.
