Eldrin Bell ends term after half century in public service

JONESBORO, Ga. — Monday marked the final day of Clayton County Commission Chair Eldrin Bell's term.

Bell's career in public service has spanned half a century.

Bell said he started as an Atlanta police officer in 1961 and held every shield the department offers, including chief.

He said he was able to take stands and still survive.

"When I look at my biblical studies these days, all of the people that we now follow had difficulties, because with the opportunity comes responsibility and with responsibility there comes a burden," Bell said.

Bell said he'll be in private consulting but will continue to serve, especially seniors, children and Clayton County.
