FOREST PARK, Ga. — Fire investigators say an early morning fire in Clayton County is suspicious.
A fire broke out at the Bradford Ridge Apartments in Forest Park shortly before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday after witnesses said someone threw a device through one of the apartment windows.
Francisco Saldivar told Channel 2 Action News someone saw a man who threw a bottle with gasoline, then saw him run around the back of the apartment building.
Francisco Saldivar's wife says she heard a discussion, probably a fight happening in their neighbor's apartment early Wednesday morning. Soon after fire engulfed the apartment building.
Firefighters said five units in the apartment building were destroyed by the fire and at least three others were impacted by it.
Eight families have been displaced by this fire, and spent the day salvaging whatever they could from their homes.
"The firewall did do its job, and kind of held down some of the major fire damage to other parts of the building," Chief Landry with the Clayton County Fire Department said.
Francisco says the ceiling to his ground floor apartment looks like it will give way any minute.
The Red Cross says it's providing assistance for at least five families displaced by the fire.
Investigators said they believe the cause of the fire was arson and they have one person in custody.
