ATLANTA — A dog boarding facility in downtown Atlanta is closed for a deep cleaning after a number of dogs came down with canine influenza.
Betsy Lamirand told Channel 2’s Wendy Corona that her dogs, Scarlett and Bluey, were healthy when she dropped them off at Wag-A-Lot on Old Flat Shoals Road last Sunday.
They were back home Monday afternoon and started showing signs of sickness Tuesday night.
“He was just coughing unbelievably. His whole body was convulsing,” she said.
It went from bad to worse: Lamirand's beagle-mix Bluey ended up in the hospital.
"Took Bluey's temperature and it said it was 104.5, listened to his lungs and said to me, 'Thank God you brought him in today.'"
There have been no confirmed cases at Wag-A-Lot's sister operation in Decatur, but workers there are being vigilant. A sign at the door warns pet owners of the risk of exposure.
“We paid $160 for them to go into daycare and board and have baths and now almost $2,000 later we’re still dealing with a couple of sick dogs,” Lamirand said.
