Dirty dishes cited in 41 health score at Chamblee Chinese restaurant

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The co-owner of a DeKalb County restaurant said she is embarrassed by their failing inspection score.

Oriental Pearl Seafood Restaurant in Chamblee is well known for their dim sum. But on May 20 the popular restaurant got a health inspection score of just 41. It was a surprise to customers.

"I just think the food is kind of good. We don't know what they do inside the restaurant in the kitchen," said customer Qianqian Qiu.

Despite many accolades on the wall about the food, some of the violations included no soap in an employee restroom, dishes stored were not clean, eggrolls not held at the right temperature and food in coolers stored uncovered.

Channel 2's Carol Sbarge went to talk to the manager about the health score, but co-owner, Kim Lee, issued a statement:

"With regard to our recent inspection, I am disappointed and embarrassed by our score. I would like to assure all of our loyal customers that we are working around the clock to address these violations. All of my staff members are working diligently to ensure that we comply with all of the corrective actions spelled out by the health inspector, and my managers are conducting additional training with all staff members to ensure that we meet all compliance standards moving forward."

The very low unsatisfactory score follows two previous scores of B's. Oriental Pearl Seafood received an 82 last year and an 83 the year before

Lee said she is confident they will have all the violations corrected when the health inspector re-inspects next week.
