DeKalb families displaced by apartment fire

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A dozen families were displaced after a fire destroyed a DeKalb County apartment building Saturday morning.

Flames were shooting through the roof of the building when crews arrived at Oak Creek Apartments.

It started around 2 a.m. in tenant Glen Harris’ kitchen. He said he grabbed a fire extinguisher but it continued to burn.

Everyone escaped unharmed, firefighters said.

It was the second major apartment fire of the night.

Crews braved cold temperatures throughout the night while on the scene. Firefighters cleared the scene at 8:30 a.m.

“It was cold, but again, our firefighters train for this,” DeKalb Fire Capt. Eric Jackson said.
