DEKALB COUNTY, Ga — Another major sewage spill has contaminated a DeKalb County creek inside a neighborhood.
Thousands of gallons of sewage spilled into Snapfinger Creek, which runs through a neighborhood. Crews are expected to work throughout the night Thursday to repair the sewer main.
The break happened near the intersection of Flat Shoals Parkway and Snapfinger Road in Lithonia.
The Burgess family, who lives in the neighborhood, told Channel 2's Matt Johnson you couldn't miss the overpowering odor when passing the creek.
“I’m sure everybody in their house has had a plunging problem, so just imagine that problem everywhere when you're outside," said Brenton Burgess.
They didn’t think the problem was thousands of gallons of raw sewage.
“Then today it was just like, wow. I couldn’t believe the number of vehicles,” said Brenda Burgess.

County officials say there's no threat to any drinking water but people are being told to stay away from the water way.
The leak was reported Wednesday night at around 7:30 on Eagles Beek Circle in Lithonia.
A county worker called it in after noticing high bacteria counts in the water.
Work has been underway at the 48-inch sewer main ever since.
Crews had to remove trees that blocked access to the main.
The creek runs behind the Lewis family’s home. They say they have questions about long term effects from the spill.
“Is there anything that is going to harm the environment?” Debby Lewis told Johnson.
The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has been notified. The cause of the spill is still under investigation.
