CHAMBLEE, Ga. — As COVID-19 cases spike across Georgia, several cities are making changes to their municipal operations in the hopes of slowing the spread of the virus.

Avondale Estates is closing City Hall to the public and having employees work virtually through January 14.

They are also shutting down the Municipal Court and will not be collecting yard waste. Garbage will no longer be picked up by the back door. Instead, it will only be picked up by the curb during this time period.

The city will not be picking up Christmas trees until after January 14, but residents can still take their tree to the old compost area by the lake, near Wiltshire Drive and Berkely Road.

In Chamblee, city facilities will remain open, but staff will be working on a hybrid, partially virtual schedule to minimize the risk of illness.

Mandatory court cases are required to be in-person and is still open to the public. A mask is required for court.

Chamblee city leaders say these changes will last through at least the end of January.
