TUCKER, Ga. — A 13-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after being hit by a car and dragged underneath the vehicle while walking home from school in DeKalb County, according to the teen and witnesses.

The crash happened Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of Fellowship Road and DeKalb County Road, not far from Tucker Middle School.
Anderson Castro told Channel 2 Action News he was crossing at a four-way stop while walking home when the incident happened.
“I was walking home from school, and then I had my headphones on, my glasses on. Next thing you know, it felt really fast. It just happened,” Castro said.
Castro said one driver signaled for him to cross the street. Moments later, he said, a different vehicle struck him from behind.
Video captured by witnesses shows bystanders rushing to help after Castro became trapped underneath the vehicle.
“I’m just under the car screaming for help and I see a guy trying to help me,” Castro said.

Witnesses told Channel 2 Action News that the vehicle dragged Castro several hundred feet before stopping. They said people nearby yelled for the driver to stop and rushed to pull the teen to safety.
Castro suffered severe injuries and told Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes some of his wounds were so extensive they could not be shown on camera.
His mother, Karen Castro, said she is grateful for the witnesses who stepped in to help her son and kept her informed after the crash. She said several people sent her videos from the scene and helped contact her.
“It’s a miracle. Everybody says it’s a miracle because he was under the car for about, I don’t know how long,” Karen Castro said.
According to DeKalb County police, the driver remained at the scene following the crash. Investigators are continuing to look into what led up to the incident.
No charges have been announced.
