ORIGINAL STORY MARCH 13:

One woman is in critical condition and a firefighter is injured after a blaze at a home in DeKalb County.

Capt. Dion Bentley said the fire started around 5 a.m. on Zane Grey Drive. Firefighters pulled a woman from an upstairs bedroom who was not breathing. Firefighters were able to perform CPR and get the woman’s pulse. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Bentley said a firefighter also sustained a knee injury when she fell outside the home and was taken to the hospital.

The homeowner told Channel 2′s Christian Jennings that it was his sister, who is in her 60s, who was pulled from the burning home. His nephew, who is in his 30s, was able to get out of the home. He was at the store at the time the blaze broke out.

The homeowner said the family’s power had been turned off, and they were waiting for a stimulus check to turn it back on.

“We were using candles, so maybe that’s what happened,” the homeowner said.

The home was extensively damaged. The homeowner said the family has lived there for more than 40 years and now everything is gone.
