DeKalb Chinese restaurant fails health inspection with 62

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE: The restaurant received a 95 upon reinspection.

-----------

A longtime DeKalb County Chinese restaurant has failed a health inspection.

One customer didn't want to eat the food he had just ordered when Channel 2 Action News told him the score as we visited Chin Chin Chinese Restaurant on Peachtree Road.

The Brookhaven location got a score of 86 in March, but on Nov. 13, the restaurant failed its health inspection with a score of 62.

Customer Earl Simmons said that made him want to take his food back.

A worker next door to the restaurant said the failing score didn’t surprise her.

Alicia Cristie said she has noticed what she described as "deplorable conditions" behind Chin Chin.

Violations during the inspection included the hand sink blocked by a trash can, bok choy not held cold enough and the knives stored on a utensil magnet contained food debris.

The manager at the restaurant told us he has since addressed the violations.

Sunny Au said everything is cleaned up. He said employees are also being reminded of safe food-handling rules. The Fulton County health inspector noted that an employee did not wash their hands after returning from outside before handling food.

Simmons said he is not going to go back to the Brookhaven Chin Chin until they improve their score from a 62.
