DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — As strong storms moved through metro Atlanta, a massive tree limb slammed into a DeKalb County home and trapped the homeowner inside.

Leisa Stafford told Channel 2′s Justin Carter she was going to sleep at her Mesa Drive home around 1:15 am. Thursday. She heard a loud boom 30 minutes later.

Stafford grabbed her gun thinking an intruder kicked her door in.

Instead, part of a large tree that sits in her front yard was now on her house.

“I looked out and saw the attic insulation in the hallway in the living room,” she said. “I could not get out because it was maybe about four feet.”

Stafford said she tried to go out the bedroom window but couldn’t with the tree protruding on the other side of the house.

Stafford said all she could do was remain calm. She brushed her teeth and called 911. Firefighters had to use a ladder to get her out.

“I think I’m a cat, I have nine lives. So I maybe have about four left, so I’m grateful,” Stafford said.

Stafford added that she is thankful that she has insurance. She will be staying with family members who live nearby for the next few days.
