GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County judge denied bond to a man accused of strangling his wife, despite YouTube video pleas posted by his two daughters.
Police charged Matthew Leili with the 2011 murder of his wife, Nique. Detectives claim that he strangled her to death and dumped her body, which searchers found days later.
Police always considered Leili the prime suspect in the case but did not arrest him until last month after he testified in a federal civil lawsuit to get his wife's insurance money.
Leili's daughters, 16-year old Amanda and 12-year old Rebecca, made a YouTube video earlier this week, defending their father and casting doubts on their mother's side of the family.
In court, Amanda testified that she made the video herself, but later admitted under cross-examination that she discussed the video with her father while he was in jail and that he encouraged her to do it.
Judge Randy Rich denied Leili bond, saying he considered him a flight risk and a danger to intimidate witnesses.
Leili's attorney believes that the Gwinnett County grand jury will hear the case by June.
