Coroner: Tommy Hanson died from cocaine use

The Coweta County coroner has ruled cocaine as the cause of death of former Atlanta Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson.
Hanson, 29, was taken to the hospital with catastrophic organ failure on Nov. 9.
He died later that night.
The initial incident report from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office listed Hanson’s incident as on overdose.
The coroner said Hanson’s official cause of death was “delayed complications of cocaine and alcohol toxicity.” His manner of death was ruled an accident.
Hanson spent four seasons with the Atlanta Braves from 2009 to 2012 and last pitched in the majors in 2013 with the Los Angeles Angels. 

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — The 6-foot-6 redhead was known for his affable personality, and was one of the most popular Braves among teammates and fans during his years with the team. “Big Red” was 45-32 with a 3.61 ERA in 108 starts for the Braves, with at least 10 wins in each of his four seasons with them.

John Schuerholz, Atlanta Braves President released a statement on behalf of the entire Braves organization:

“We are incredibly saddened to learn of Tommy's tragic passing.  He was a favorite in the clubhouse and with our staff and he will truly be missed by everyone in Braves Country. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, family, former teammates and friends.”
