Construction on downtown Ferris wheel delayed

ATLANTA — The opening of the new SkyView Atlanta Ferris wheel has been delayed due to "unforeseen obstacles."

According to a news release from spokesman Jason Evans, the attraction was intended to open in Centennial Olympic Park on July 2, but now is now expected to open during the second or third week of July.

Evans said construction was delayed by the discovery of a Georgia Power duct bank, which forced the Ferris wheel to be elevated by a foot.

The Ferris wheel is currently being dismantled at its current home in Pensacola, Fla. More than 30 shipping containers are expected to be transported to Atlanta next week.
