GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A cockroach was among the violations found at a Thai restaurant in Gwinnett county.
The new owners took over Thai Red Garlic restaurant in Lawrenceville in May. When it was inspected on July 10, their new restaurant got only a 43 on their inspection.
Among the problems found were a reported cockroach, the ice machine had mold-like substance, the food chopper had caked on food debris and several items were not maintained at 41 degrees or below.
On a previous inspection in May, the restaurant scored a perfect 100.
Channel 2's Carol Sbarge went to the restaurant on Pleasant Hill Road to find out what happened in the two months since the new owner took over.
"[They] asked so many questions like, 'What you make with the sauce? What is in the ingredients?' They're not supposed to do that," said owner Thao Huynh.
Huynh said she ran a restaurant in Seattle where the inspections were different. She was surprised how long the inspector spent inside the restaurant.
As for the roach, she said that has been addressed with an exterminator and follow up.
"They have to come every month," Huynh said.
Huynh also said they have now thoroughly cleaned the ice machine.
"We close the store a few days before I take over to clean up. It's a very old building," Huynh said.
Huynh said she believes the next inspection for her new business will pass and she is assuring her customers it is safe to keep coming.
"If it is not good, I cannot serve to people," Huynh said.
