Police lined the streets of Smyrna Wednesday to pay tribute to an officer who died in the line of duty.
Officer Christopher Ewing, 34, died Monday night when he was hit and killed by a suspected drunken driver.
Ewing’s fellow officers escorted his body from the medical examiner’s office to Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna Wednesday afternoon.
The procession started on North Marietta Parkway from Fairground Street and headed west around the city to Atlanta Street. Atlanta Street southbound from South Marietta Parkway was closed all the way into the city.
Officers from other local agencies joined in to pay tribute to Ewing.

Ewing worked for the Smyrna Police Department for two years. He leaves behind a wife and three children. Ewing also served in the Air Force for 10 years.
He had just recently received a life saving award and applied to be a member of the DUI task force, according to Police Chief Joseph Bennett.
The suspected driver Robert Lorenzo Cox, 35, is charged with homicide by vehicle, DUI, failure to yield and tampering with evidence.
