Police searching for driver who took joyride on middle school field

MILTON, Ga. — Police are searching for the people who took a joyride through a middle school athletic field and theft thousands of dollars worth of damage behind.

It happened at Northwestern Middle School in Milton.

Channel 2′s Audrey Washington was at the school, where neighbors said the same thing has happened before.

"To see vandalism here at the school is unfortunate," neighbor Jeff Dover said. "You need to be careful when you're on people's property and respect their property."

Milton police said the people drove onto the field during last weekend's snowfall. Surveillance video caught the driver doing donuts on the snow-covered fields. But when it melted, the damage was evident.

The field is currently turned over with deep tire marks running through it. Police say it'll cost well into the thousands to repair the field.

Jona Kay Pringle lives nearby. She says unfortunately, this is not the first time someone drove through fields at the school.

“It’s been done at the practice field here at the middle school," Pringle said. "That’s when I’ve seen them do it. And they actually put that fencing up because they would drive down here. I don't know. It's a lot of money to repair it."

Police said the vehicle appears to be a black Jeep Renegade. They said it's been difficult to catch the driver because the driver covered up the Jeep's license plate with a plastic bag.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Milton Police.
