COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Marietta man has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of possessing and distributing child pornography.
James Maddox, 32, was convicted of four counts of sexual exploitation of children.
Evidence presented during the trial showed Maddox, who has a degree in computer science, obtained videos and images through two different file-sharing programs.
He kept the files in a shared folder on one of two different computers, which allowed other users of the program to obtain the files from him.
“This defendant admitted having the file-sharing accounts, admitted that he had those accounts for downloading pornography, acknowledged that you have to type in search terms to find specific kinds of pornography, admitted he had seen kids on the pornography, and that it was left on his computers, but claims it was all an accident,” ADA Hannah Palmquist said. “He continually chose to view those files, and there were many files. If this were an accident, it wouldn’t be repeated over and over.”
Maddox has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, with five years to serve and the rest on probation.
