High school students attacked, robbed leaving campus

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — One man is in jail and another is on the run after police said they robbed teenagers outside a local high school.

Police told Channel 2 Action News the robbery happened after classes ended at Pebblebrook High School in Cobb County. Investigators said the duo attacked two teens and stole cellphones, laptops, book bags and jewelry.

"(I'm) very disappointed and I don’t want any harm to come to anybody’s children," said Juanita Williams, who lives nearby.

Cobb School police said Billy Gene Viverette punched and kicked one child and snatched a backpack, which had an iPhone and computer.

"You never know how you’re gonna come out in that situation," said neighbor Emma Bolton.

Cops arrested Viverette. The man who investigators say helped carry out the robbery after school on Thursday night is on the run.

According to an arrest warrant, Marcelus Hines assaulted another teen and took a book bag containing a gold necklace with a gold pendant.

Police believe Viverette is the same man who tried to break into cars at a Kroger parking lot on Floyd Road in January.

In that case, investigators said he and two others walked around and scoped out cars in the middle of the day.

Employees at the Kroger saw the group on surveillance cameras open a car door. Police documents show they found a knife, screwdriver, rubber mallet and a steel railroad spike.

Police did not identify the victims because of their ages, but we've learned they have cuts and bruises.

Viverette remains at the Cobb County jail charged with robbery, battery and trespassing.
