Georgians getting ready to gather together for UGA/TCU championship game

MARIETTA, Ga. — Across the state of Georgia, folks are gathering together ahead of kickoff for the College Football Playoff National Championship Monday night.

Channel 2′s Michele Newell was in Cobb County on Monday afternoon to see how neighbors plan on celebrating.

Glover Park Brewery in Marietta is going to be standing room only as the Dawgs take on the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. They told Newell they’ll stay open until the last person leaves.

Channel 2 also checked in with Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin, who says he’s ready to cheer the Dawgs on to a back-to-back win.

“Today’s a big day for Georgia, so I wore my red pants, my socks, my Bulldog tie, my coat,” Mayor Tumlin said describing his outfit.

Excitement is brewing all across the state and fans, just like the mayor, are getting ready for some of the biggest watch parties.

“I think most of the places here in town and my neighborhood will have one,” Tumlin said.

MORE GEORGIA BULLDOGS:

Even the youngest fans are showing off their team spirit.

The dress code at Dunleith Elementary School and other Marietta City Schools looked a little different Monday. Students and teachers alike were allowed to deck out in their best UGA gear.

“My shoes are red and black,” student Zoey McCoy said.

“This is like one of my Christmas pajama shirts, but I wore it today because I’m a really big fan of the Georgia bulldogs,” Carrey Arias explained.

Newell had to make sure she could make the grade with her UGA-inspired outfit.

“I have the red lips, the black dress, how did I do today?,” Newell asked Principal Dr. Rachel Brown-Miller.

“Oh, you’re representing. I think you could sit in the front row indeed,” Dr. Brown-Miller laughed.
