UGA offering students a shot at $1,000 for COVID-19 vaccinations

ATHENS, Ga. — Students at the University of Georgia who have been vaccinated or get vaccinated can now enter to win a $1,000 prize being given away by the university.

The university is incentivizing their students to get vaccinated and rewarding those who already have.

Officials say that since they announced this program, their appointments for students to get vaccinated have greatly increased.

“There’s really not a reason to not get vaccinated. You’re just helping others and yourself by being protected, and it’s really easy, simple and painless,” said Madeline Coward, a junior animal science major from Statesboro.

Any student, staff or faculty member who has been fully vaccinated can enter their names into a drawing for one of 100 cash prizes.

Drawings for these prizes will be held September 15, September 30 and October 15 to give students not yet vaccinated the opportunity to get fully vaccinated.

“Our doctors and nurses at the University Health Center have been excited to see the groundswell of interest in vaccine appointments since these incentives were announced,” said UHC Interim Executive Director Jen Swails.

Students, faculty and staff can make appointments for the University Health Center online.

The University Health Center says that in the last six weeks, they have vaccinated 1,500 students at the center and walk-up appointments at the Tate Student Center.
