2 confirmed dead after plane crash in Oconee County, deputies say

WATKINSVILLE, Ga. — Oconee officials are investigating after a plane went down Wednesday afternoon in Watkinsville.

The Oconee Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that a plane crashed in the area of Government Station Road just before 3 p.m. A report on the crash from the Federal Aviation Administration later confirmed there were two fatalities.

Deputies did not say what caused the plane to go down.

Oconee authorities confirmed it was a deadly single-engine plane crash Wednesday afternoon.

The FAA report on the crash reported it was a Cessna 177, a single-engine plane. Two people were on board, according to the FAA’s report.

The NTSB and FAA are investigating the crash.
