ATLANTA — Some Atlanta residents are upset over a proposed ordinance that would hike the price residents pay for sidewalk repairs.
The ordinance would update the current fee structure for sidewalk repair requests, which has not seen a price increase in six years.
A Department of Public Works representative said that, historically, certain infrastructure repairs have been done for a fee, and "the fee usually covers the cost of the repairs and should be updated on a regular basis."
Public works says the fee has not changed, but the cost of materials to make repairs continues to rise.
Repair prices would increase between 18 and 381 percent, depending on the work needed.
The city says the ordinance would apply to paid sidewalk permit work where properties request the city to repair the sidewalk abutting their property.
