Children injured in Lake Lanier Jet Ski accident

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Two children were injured when a Jet Ski collided with an inner tube on Lake Lanier Friday afternoon.

Officials said the crash happened near Van Pugh Park at the end of Gaines Ferry Road around 3 p.m.

Investigators said the children were being towed on an inner tube by a rented pontoon boat when someone in their party on a rented Jet Ski hit them.

Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell told Channel 2's Mark Winne an 11-year-old boy was flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston in critical condition with head injuries.

Officials said the boy was unresponsive at the scene of the accident.

News Chopper 2 showed a second victim, a 15-year-old girl, being moved from an ambulance in a parking lot and loaded onto a helicopter ambulance. The girl was also flown to Egleston as well.

Officials initially described her condition as stable but the girl’s condition started to deteriorate so they airlifted her to the hospital.

Channel 2's Michael Buczyner later found out the girl had a broken arm and a laceration on her head.

The person driving the Jet Ski was a 38-year-old Atlanta resident, Winne reported.

Two Department of Natural Resource rangers witnessed the crash and helped rescue one child. A nearby boater rescued the second child. Officials said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

There is no word on if anyone will be charged in the incident.
