Officers said Pence grabbed the deputy’s arm and started to drive away. The deputy wrestled free after about 30 feet and was not injured. Pence sped off.

Deputies chased Pence into Pickens County with the help of the Georgia State Patrol and the Pickens County Sherriff’s office. Pence got away and officers later found his car abandoned.

Officers got a tip that Pence may be in Fairmount. Troopers were able to find him there and take him into custody.

Pence has been charged with aggravated assault of an officer, fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless driving, obstruction of an officer, giving false information, expired tag and driving on a suspended license. Pence is in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center being held without bond.
