Cherokee County’s Large Animal Rescue team rescues fallen horse from bottom of hill

Special operations chief Darrell Mitchell said the horse was on the ground in a temporary holding pasture located on the side of a hill. Mitchell said because of the heavy rain in the area, the pasture was very muddy and slippery and the horse apparently “casted” and got stuck on its side. The horse could not gain enough traction to get up.

He said the team was able to get a couple of straps around the horse and drag him back up the hill to a flat area. They then added two more straps to pull the horse off his side and onto his belly. Mitchell said the team then waited a few minutes for the horse to catch his breath and then was able to pull him all the way up so he could stand on his own.
