CHATTOOGA COUNTY, Ga. — Chattooga County Schools announced Wednesday that classes would be remain canceled Thursday and Friday following flooding across North Georgia over the weekend.
District officials initially closed the schools Tuesday and Wednesday because much of the area has been without running water.

The flooding was so bad that Gov. Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency on Sunday for Chattooga and Floyd counties.
“Without water, we are unable to flush toilets, wash hands, drink from the fountains, or prepare lunches,” the district said on Monday.

Officials say they hope to have the schools reopened early next week.
The announcement comes as Gov. Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp toured relief centers across Chattooga County on Wednesday. He says the main focus right now is making sure everyone in the community has food and water.
