SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The mayor and City Council members of Chattahoochee Hills listened to dozens of concerned citizens speaking out against City Manager Jay Dipasquale.
Citizens are concerned that the city manager, who has been in office for about four months, has allegedly harassed faculty at a charter school, been aggressive with citizens and overstepped his powers by getting involved in a police investigation.
The city hired an investigator to look into an incident at the charter school. Dipasquale is accused of confronting faculty members for signing an online petition to reinstate the former police chief.
Police Chief Matt Rook resigned because of the alleged abuse of power by Dipasquale.
According to documents obtained by Channel 2 Action News, the chief believed Dipasquale was overreaching into police matters when he allegedly began investigating a possible missing person case and death at the TomorrowWorld Music Festival.
Ultimately, the Council and mayor neither reinstated Rook nor reprimanded Dipasquale. The mayor said he wishes there was more he could do.
"We were, (in) 2015, the fourth safest city in the state of Georgia," resident Marcia Lee said. "We've now lost one third of our police department."
