CARROLLTON, Ga. — The son of a late Carroll County deputy was sworn into the City of Carrollton Police department Wednesday with a very special tribute to his father.

Dylan Maxwell’s father, Lee, served for 27 years with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department. Lee Maxwell died in January at age 47 after an extended illness.

Dylan Maxwell is now following in his father's footsteps in law enforcement, and the police department made sure that as Dylan accepted his new position, his father's memory was also kept alive with a special badge number.

“Dylan’s dad was #986 at CCSO. Today, Dylan was given #286” the sheriff’s department wrote on Facebook. “Your dad is looking down and is so proud of you! As far as your new badge number, I’m pretty sure when he heard about it, he said, ‘That’s all right...’”

Sheriff’s departments and police departments use a specific first number on badges to designate their county or jurisdiction. The Carroll County Sheriffs Department uses 8s and 9s while the police department uses 2 as the first number.

“We know how proud Lee would be and we are excited to have you as part of our Blue Line family! Thank goodness in the times we are in today for the younger generation who still wants to pursue a career in Public Safety, we are forever grateful for your selfless sacrifices!!”
