• Cannonball found in downtown Atlanta construction site

    ATLANTA - Atlanta police removed a cannonball from a construction site in downtown Atlanta Thursday afternoon.

    Police said a construction crew found the cannonball around 2 p.m. near Baker and Marietta streets.

    The area was closed off while SWAT units investigated. Bomb technicians said it could be from the Civil War era, but the precise date and nature of the device has not been determined.

    The cannonball was treated as an unexploded device and taken to a safe location for detonation.
