Body found in Chattahoochee River in Johns Creek

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Johns Creek police say the body of a male was found in the Chattahoochee River Monday afternoon.

The body was found near Abbotts Bridge Road and McGinnis Ferry Road just across the Forsyth County line.

Channel 2's Mike Petchenik spoke to a kayaker who was spotting a location for a future cleanup when he saw the body.

"It was a bit of a shock. You don't normally find a body on the river. But I've been in the fire services for 33 years, so I knew it was a body," said Clint Miller.

Miller said the body was badly decomposed and "you could tell it was there for a while."

Police have not identified the male victim.

Johns Creek police, Gwinnett police and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene.

The nature of the death is under investigation.
