ATLANTA — There are some potentially big changes coming for Georgia consumers looking to buy an electric or hybrid vehicle.
The $5,000 tax credit for consumers purchasing an electric vehicle is likely to end in July.
“I usually drive 400 miles a week so now with this, it's perfect,” said Nissan Leaf owner Andy Wang.
Wang purchased his Leaf this year and is able to charge it at work each day. He says even without the tax credit, it will still be worth it.
“It’s free gas,” said Wang.
Jonathan Linkov, the deputy autos editor for Consumer Report, agrees.
“Look at something like the Toyota Prius, you’re getting 44 miles per gallon. You are going to save about $1,000 probably compared to a small sedan that’s getting 10 to 15 miles per gallon less,” said Linkov.
He also points out there are more choices than ever if you are in the market for an electric or hybrid vehicle.
“It’s not like 10 years ago. You can get a Highlander hybrid, just like you can get a regular Toyota SUV, Prius, Honda Civic, Camry, Accord,” Linkov said.
