1 dead, 1 injured after unknown vehicle opens fire on car on Georgia highway, GBI says

BARROW COUNTY, Ga. — The GBI is investigating after two people were shot in their car on a Georgia highway, leaving one man dead.

Investigators said the incident happened May 1 around 1 a.m. on GA Highway 316 in Barrow County. The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about a potential road rage incident near Jackson Trail Road.

Ketravian Tyvon Cole, 20, of Athens, was pronounced dead on the scene from apparent gunshot wounds. Another Athens man was injured by gunfire and taken to a nearby hospital. His identity and condition have not been released.

Investigators said they believe a dark-colored sedan of unknown make and model pulled up beside the victims’ vehicle and opened fire. There were no descriptions of suspects.

The shooting is the latest in a long string of highway shootings on metro Atlanta highways since the beginning of the year.

According to our partners at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, prior to this incident there have been at least 14 known shootings on Metro Atlanta highways since January. Out of those 14 incidents, four ended with someone dead.
