Barber, customer fight off armed robber

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County barber said he and a customer fought off an armed robber after he pointed a gun at a family.

The attack happened at the A-Plus Barber Shop on Buford Highway. Employees said a man asked for a haircut, asked for the restroom and returned with a gun.

"I was standing right here and the robber comes just like this, with a .38 revolver at my head," barber Marcos Sandoval told Channel 2's Kerry Kavanaugh.

Sandoval, 21, said he was cutting a client's hair when the robber demanded cash and cellphones. Then, the robber turned the gun on the client's wife and young son who were waiting. Sandoval said he and the customer fought the robber when the gun went off, piercing the customer's hand.

"I'm not going to let somebody take my life away for no $20," Sandoval said.

Then, the robber lost his gun and headed for the bathroom before darting out again, Sandoval said. He said he fought the man in the parking lot while police were on their way.

"At this time I was already grabbing him by his shirt," Sandoval said.

Police said they used a Taser on the suspect, Brett Gresham. They said they then chased him to another parking lot where he was hit with the Taser two more times before surrendering.

Gresham is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and cruelty to children. He is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
